HX Expeditions

Overview

HX Expeditions is the global expedition‑cruise brand formerly known as Hurtigruten Expeditions. As of late 2024, the company rebranded to “HX” to distinguish its worldwide expedition cruises from its sister brand’s classic Norwegian coastal sailings. With a legacy dating back to 1896, HX specializes in small‑ship, expedition‑style voyages to remote and wild destinations such as Antarctica, Greenland, the Arctic, Alaska, the Galápagos, and more

What’s Included

Comfortable accommodations aboard their modern expedition ships (cabin or suite, depending on booking).

All meals onboard.

Beverages, both non‑alcoholic and alcoholic: the all‑inclusive offering now includes drinks onboard.

Expert-led expedition activities, guided landings, nature & wildlife viewing, zodiac/shore excursions (when applicable), and immersive experiences related to science, culture, and history depending on the voyage.

Lectures, educational and science-oriented programs onboard, meaning you get not only a trip but also learning and deep insight into the destinations.

Port fees, taxes, and gratuities: These are covered under the all‑inclusive model so travelers don’t have to worry about hidden tipping costs.

For many sailings: inclusive access to gear (sometimes including reusable water bottles, expedition equipment rental when needed), giving a more sustainable, “ready‑for‑adventure” experience.

Best For

Curious, environmentally- and culturally-conscious travelers looking for immersive, off‑the‑beaten‑path experiences rather than standard resort‑style cruises.

Solo travelers: HX supports solo travel and, on many sailings, offers low or no solo‑supplement (though availability depends on cabin allocation).

Travelers interested in wildlife, nature, science, culture, and education will find HX especially appealing, expect onboard lectures, expert-guided excursions, educational programs, and immersive experiences tied to ecology, history, and environment.

What to Know

Because HX focuses on remote, wild destinations — Antarctica, Arctic, Greenland, Galápagos, Alaska — expect variable and sometimes harsh or unpredictable conditions (weather, sea conditions, ice, remote landings). Travelers should be prepared with appropriate clothing, gear, and flexible expectations.

The pace and structure are often exploration‑ and nature‑oriented, not resort‑style entertainment. The schedule may depend heavily on weather and wildlife conditions; expedition plans may change accordingly.
